The Nigerian government has urged sympathizers of the #EndSARS movement to shelve plans to re-open the Lekki toll gate at Lagos state
Lekki Toll Gate community is a place where Nigerian soldiers shot and killed unarmed protesters on October 20.
The facility has been closed since the night of the shooting, but the authorities have set up a judicial team to investigate reports of police brutality and military violence against #EndSARS protesters - recently voted for reopening.
#EndSARS supporters disapprove of the panel's decision. Many people think it is inappropriate and inconsiderate to reopen the toll station for the victims of the Lake shooting. Although there were a large number of police at the Lucky toll station on Saturday, some protesters continued to express their dissatisfaction with the reopening of Lucky Tollgate.
This is a struggle when dozens of policemen recruited to toll stations try to arrest protesters who formed two or three in different places.
However, the officers were unable to stop some protesters locked in Hermaria from expressing their resentment.
At the time of submission of this report, at least 28 people, including those who claimed to be passers-by, had been arrested at the Lakey toll station.
Protest
Lagos' judicial investigation team ordered the reopening of the Lakey toll station on Saturday, which stimulated the #occupyLekkitollgate movement, and young people rose up against the reopening.
The young man believes that it is too early to reopen the toll station, because the investigation into the Lucky shooting on October 20, 2020 has not yet been completed.
Lekki Toll Square has not been operational since the #EndSARS protests began. After Nigerian army officers shot and killed unarmed protesters, the square was completely closed on the night of October 20, 2020.
On #occupyLekkitollgate, other young people vowed to #DefendLagos against the planned protests.
This triggered protests and counter-protests scheduled to be held at the Lakey toll station at 7 a.m. on Saturday.
