As the deadline expires today, an amazing 29 million analogue business cards have not been linked to their national identity card numbers.
The deadline for the federal government to link subscribers to the national identity card number to the SIM card expires today.
However, an amazing 29 million analogue cards have not been linked.
On Monday, a senior federal government official told Daily Trust that about 1.76 million SIM cards were connected to the owner's NIN.
Nigerians travelling to social media warned of the consequences of cutting off the use of analogue cards by millions of Nigerians.
The government has set deadlines for January 19 and February 9 for users who already have NINs and those who do not have NIN networks, respectively, to connect their SIM cards to their unique identity numbers.
Uwa Suleiman, spokesman for the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ibrahim Pantami, did not respond to the query from the Daily Trust, which aims to understand the fate of those who failed to establish contact before the deadline.
The Nigerian Communications Commission said that due to the continuous link between NIN records and SIM card registration, telecommunications users will not disconnect on a large scale.
